QotD: High School Romance

What was the best date you went on in high school?

All of my dates in high school were far from great.  I was at a point in my life where I was semi-obsessed with my weight and hated eating in front of people because I would totally just skip meals and didnt want to look fat in front of anyone. Anyway - I'll tell you about my 1st and 2nd date.

1st - I went to Flor de Mayo on 101st (i think and broadway).  I was about 16 and the dude that took me, looking back, was a drug dealer. i noticed after everyone around me had huge chains and all that, i actually noticed a couple of yrs later because all my mini-thugs friends/wanna be drug dealers would always talk about this place as if it was the bomb diggity. alrighty then. so i order chicharron de pollo, sin huesos (w/o bones) to avoid having to pick the shit in front of dude.

the chicken comes out, it looks all cute and shit, but the chunks are the size of my wrist. im like great.  more drama in the nyc. i come from a home where my mom cooks bite sized meats - meaning i dont have to mess w/ my food, and knives because when im eating, im in it to win it, not worried about all the extra stuff like more than one utensil. w/ that said, i didnt really know how to cut my chicken...don't laugh.

im there trying to look all cute w/ my semi dimples and curly hair, thinking omg, wtf.  and as soon as i try to look like i know what im doing, my damn chicken flies across the table.

yup.  kodak moment. i think it went on his lap or plate. mind you. had this happened now, my sense of humor wouldve saved me. back then - nonexistent...so i turned all the colors of a sunset.

the date saw it as an opportunity and decided to cut all of my chicken for me.  it was the sweetest thing to happen to me...that day. i am now a great meat cutter (i think i mastered the skill in college, w/ cheap ass plastic utensils).  thanks to that horrible experience. i just dont do it like every one else, i think i do it the british way - whatever that is. thats what someone in college told me. oh well.

date #2.  so w/ me still being semi obsessive about weight, and not trying to seem like a fat ass, i decided to order 'salad' on another date.  i was such a tool. i ordered caesar salad and asked for ranch (not realizing it already came w/ dressing)...i dont even like ranch. im used to just putting olive oil and vinegar on my salads, real dominican style, but i couldnt say that then because i was with an italian. 

the salad comes out and its like a blanket of lettuce, like one hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee blanket. i couldnt freaking eat it. i had to chop it all up (remember my expertise w/ knives - yea, nonexistent at the point. i was crushed. i didnt want to go on). the worst thing ever.  i was struggling w/ it, because i would think i was taking a tiny bite, and then all of a sudden, i would have to open my mouth up to extreme limits to attempt to eat this stupid salad that tasted horrible, only to appear 'lady like' for a guy that im sure couldve cared less.

ive had better 'dates' riding the train downtown.  or walking somewhere. im a huge talker. good conversation will beat any dinner, movie, or anything else - always!
